World Oceans Day in Puerto Plata, June 6
PUERTO PLATA – James H. Ross Oceanographic Institute and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in extent of Puerto Plata, will hold on Friday, 6 June, 2014 World Oceans Day with the participation of national scientists and International through video conferencing.
It was reported that this event will be dedicated to Dr. Idelisa Bonelly’s work for her eternal contribution to Marine Biology and for her commitment and dedication to the whole world, as the first recognized marine biologist from the Dominican Republic.
The Oceanographic Institute James H. Ross, aims to educate the public that there is a comprehensive knowledge about the wise use of our oceans, rivers, seas and all marine wildlife.
Various institutions will be present at this important event such as the Association of Fishing Vessel Owners of Puerto Plata, the Vermont Institute, the Center for Community Solidarity (CESOCO), the Union of Fishermen, divers and Yoleros of Puerto Plata and the Seamen’s Union Merchant of Puerto Plata.
Besides the assistance of government level institutions there will be expected the provincial governor of Puerto Plata, the provincial Environment Dominican Marino Foundation Studio (FUNDEMAR), the Dominican Navy (Navy), City of Puerto Plata and National Federation of Fisheries.
