With vow to end blackouts, Medina join all predecessors
Santo Domingo.- With just 18 months in office, president Danilo Medina on Thursday joined all of his predecessors when he announced the end of the country’s historic blackouts before his term ends August 16, 2016.
In his State of the Nation speech, Medina announced a National Pact with the energy sector before year end, with the mediation of the Economic and Social Council (CES).
Speaking before the National Assembly to mark Dominican Independence Day on February 27, the chief executive vowed to resolve the country’s “eternal problem of the electricity sector.”
The Power Pact was one of Medina’s promises made during inaugural on August 16, 2012. “We will leave behind this situation of high prices and poor service once and for all.”
