US$60M aim to recover Colonial Zone’s splendor soon
Santo Domingo.- In the next few months the Colonial Zone will start to show its facelift aimed at recovering its splendor as the Dominican capital’s main cultural, historical and nightlife attraction.
A total 41 projects that form the Colonial City’s Tourism Promotion Program are 40% complete, and 114 of the 118 contracts needed to finish tem will be materialized by yearend.
Program coordinator Maribel Villalona said the projects had required a design stage which has already been applied and have now entered their implementation phase. “This entire bureaucracy and administrative part have dramatically advanced, not only because our technicians are very good but also as the result of the IDB’s (Inter-American Development Bank) support to streamline the processes at the President’s request.”
US$60 million loan
The urban planning expert added that with the IDB loan of US $60 million, the works were expected to be ready by December, 2016, but noted that president Danilo Medina has instructed to conclude them before that date.
