US, China and Haiti top trade with Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The United States leads just a handful of countries with the most trade with the Dominican Republic, followed by China and Haiti.
The publication Dominicana en Cifras 2014 reported Wednesday that the US accounts for more than 43% (US$6.6 billion) of the country’s imports and 37.97% (US$4.1 billion) of its exports.
It said Dominican trade in 2013 was $ 26,272.5 million, or US$9.6 billion in exports and US$17.1 billion in imports.
Dominican exports to Haiti last year were US$1.4 billion, while importing US$1.8 billion-worth from China.
Other major suppliers to the Dominican Republic in 2013 were Venezuela, US$1.1 billion; Mexico US$1.05 billion; Spain US$368.2 million; Colombia US$360.9 million; Japan US$312.8 million, and Costa Rica US$245.9 million.
Also Korea, US$ 236.9 million; Italy, US$208 million; France with US$140.6 million; United Kingdom US$139.4 million and India, US$118.6 million.
Six countries account for 73.9% of exports
Dominican exports last year were led by Canada, with US$ 973.4 million; China, US$229.5 million; UK, US$179.8 million and Spain, US$120.0 million.
