U.S. envoy visits USAID youth training program in Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata.- In his first tour of the city of Puerto Plata U.S. ambassador James W. Brewster visited the Evangelical Revival Church Community Center in Padre Granero, to observe training provided by the chemical products manufacturer Grupo Clara.
The training is conducted through the Alerta Joven program sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Grupo Clara is a nonprofit entity working with Puerto Plata youngsters for more than 14 years, and received RD$5.1 million from USAID to benefit more than 600 young people at risk in Puerto Plata province, including of HIV prevention and vocational training, such as the manufacture of cleaning products.
Brewster, accompanied by husband Bob Satawake, said the program forms part of Washington’s commitment to promote social inclusion, improve education and public safety and foster governance.
