The CDEEE received the environmental license for the coal-fired plants
SD. The Dominican Corporation of State – owned Electricity Enterprises (CDEEE) received yesterday from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Mimarena) the definitive environmental license was the construction and operation of the Punta Catalina Generation Plant.
Environmental License number 0267 – 14 was granted by the Ministry of the Environment “after a detailed analysis of the study of Environmental Impact of the project prepared by national and international experts of two different firms contracted for this study.”
This move substitutes the provisional license which was being used for the project until now and gives approval to the construction and operation of a thermoelectric generation Plant will use coal as the fuel through the installation of two 376 MW units for a total capacity of 752 MW, and its complementary buildings.
PLD deputies support
The Block of Deputies of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) gave its absolute backing of the Punta Catalina electricity generation plants, in the province of Peravia.
Rubén Maldonado, the spokesman for the PLD bloc, rejected the attempts to boycott the initiative of the executive power and said that the PLD deputies establish their position yesterday and are on permanent alert to avoid that business sectors impede the construction of this project.
