The captured German in Sosúa has been a fugitive since January on charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation
PUERTO PLATA – . Dominican authorities reported that last Saturday a German citizen was arrested in Sosua. The arrested is accused of trafficking offenses and sex exploitation of person .
He was stopped by the joint effort of officers of the National Police and public prosecutors, and was identified as Erwin Seitel, 52 years old who posed as a tourist to avoid justice .
Reportedly the German was a fugitive from the Dominican justice since the end of January, when he was charged with integrating an international network dedicated to trafficking and sexual exploitation.
The arrest was made after an extensive search and seizure operation at his home.
Erwin Seitel will be brought in front of the court of Puerto Plata. Dominican law prohibits all forms of human trafficking. Specifically, the Law 137-03 establishes penalties of up to 20 years in prison , which is considered sufficiently robust and commensurate with penalties for other grave crimes, such as sexual violation .
