Strike on the Luperon tourist road again
PUERTO PLATA – Early at 4:00 am Tuesday, June 10, the tourist road Luperon was completely blocked in the protest by dozens of community organizations and transportation that requires central government to rebuild this transport communication channel.
This stop affects daily activities in the thirty communities along the Northern Range from Santiago to Puerto Plata. Due to impassable conditions of said road, dozens of establishments trade have closed their doors and for those reasons citizens have joined the protest on June 10, 2014.
Drivers who belong to various organizations or unions paralyzed public transport from La Gran Parada de Montellano, municipal districts and Top Yásica Pedro García de Puerto Plata to the town of Gurabo in Santiago demanding the reconstruction of the Luperon tourist road.
Mr. William Fernandez said that in some communities banana trees were planted in the middle of the road connecting Puerto Plata and Santiago, hampering vehicular traffic. He explained that the protest was due to a lack of will by government authorities who only made promises but did not take action to begin reconstruction of the road.
