Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic and Russia on Thursday agreed to closer  ties and cooperation as well as bilateral projects in trade and tourism.

The announcement, made during a workshop at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, also re-launches the nearly 70 years of relations between Moscow and Santo Domingo.

During the meeting headed by Dominican Deputy Foreign minister Alejandra Liriano and Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry Latin America Dept. director Alexander Shchetinin, both governments expressed their determination to strengthen diplomatic and trade relations, through more fluid links between the two foreign ministries.

It was also agreed to hold a second meeting with the participation of Dominican Foreign minister Andrés Navarro and Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, to resume the diplomatic dialogue the two nations carry out since 2009.
