Push for the cross-mountain Cibao highway
Santiago.- The Santiago Development Council (CDES) on Sunday called the planned Cibao (North)-South Highway one of the most important strategic works for Santiago and the northern region, pledged by president Danilo Medina since his first contact with the organization .
CDES director Carlos Fondeur said San Juan de la Maguana (south) and Santiago entrepreneurs, religious and community leaders have met repeatedly to promote the cross-mountain highway they affirm will bolster the two regions’ social and economic development.
He cautioned however that the project has to be conducted in a transparent manner and in compliance with all environmental, technical and financial requirements to guarantee its success.
Fondeur added that the road’s ideal route should cross the Central Mountains from the dam near San Juan in the south, to the town of Moncion in the north, then to San Jose de las Matas, Santiago province.
