Power companies rebuff ‘2nd most expensive energy’ headline

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s association of power companies (ADIE) on Tuesday called the affirmation that Dominican industry pays the world’s second most expensive energy, “false”, and asked the media to do its part and publish “truth and objectivity.”

ADIE executive vice president Milton Morrison’s statement responds to the World Economic Forum in its report “Global Energy Architecture Performance Index Report 2014,” published Monday by

Morrison questions the report titled “Dominican Republic is the country with the world’s second most expensive energy,” noting that the allegation that the study polled 124 nations leads to a false conclusion.

In a letter to editor-in-chief Adriano Miguel Tejada, Morrison says headlines should “continue fulfilling journalism’s role related to truth and objectivity,” and notes that the report “doesn’t respond to the truth on statistics from the State-owned Electric Utility CDEEE, the distribution companies, “or of the most recognized global energy institutions.”

“It also doesn’t specify that it’s referring to a segment, in this case the industrial,” the executive said, adding: “If you wish to be specific, the news should be limited to 60 countries, and not as the newspaper headline reads, referring to the world or to the planet.”
