Poland says DR authorities not cooperating in Wesolowski case
Poland’s public prosecutor announced on Friday, 19 December 2014 that it has suspended the pedophilia investigation against former papal nuncio in the Dominican Republic Josef Wesolowski due to lack of cooperation from law enforcement authorities in the Dominican Republic, where the alleged incidents of sexual abuse of minors took place.
“The Dominican side has failed to respond to the requests from the Polish prosecutors for legal help and we have no information when they will be met,” a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office told Polish Radio.
The former archbishop is under arrest in the Vatican that has promised to try him next year.
From the start, Dominican prosecutor Francisco Dominguez Brito has said that the case needed to be tried by the Vatican. Dominguez Brito visited the Polish law enforcement authorities on 1 December 2014 supposedly to bring evidence collected in the Dominican Republic in the cases of Polish priest sexual abuse. To tell from the decision of the Polish prosecutors, apparently only evidence in the case of father Wojciech Gil was delivered.
