OTTT and transport unions lower fares
SD. The Technical Office of Ground Transportation (OTTT) announced yesterday reductions in the fare prices of public transportation of RD$5.00 on the urban routes and between RD$10 and RD$20 on intercity routes were buses that use diesel fuel that is subsidized operate.
The director of the OTTT, Hector Mojica, assured reporters that on this occasion the fare prices were coordinated with the transportation businessmen: Arsenio Quevedo, the president of UNATRAFIN; Antonio Marte, the president of CONATRA; Ramon Perez Figuereo, the president of the C NTU; Freddie Mendez, the president of the Union of Bus Owners; Juan Marte, the President of the CNTT; and Gervasio de la Rosa, the President of Fetranreno. The OTTT spokesman, Melvison Almanzar, told Diario Libre by telephone that the Fenatrano syndicate, headed by Juan Hubieres, “has still not announced” its decision, and was therefore excluded from the press communiqué.
Almanzar made it clear that the “buses that use diesel inside the urban areas will reduce fares by RD$5 pesos; while the intercity routes, according to the distances will lower their fares between RD$10 and RD$20 pesos.” He did not describe how they would determine the fare reductions.
Mojica stated in a press release that “after a waiting period in the dialogue with the transportation businessman, a cordial agreement was reached regarding the reduction of the fare prices because it was considered more than fair, due to the significant reduction in the price of fuels.” Mojica pointed out that “the transportation sector was open to the negotiation with this institution and they trusted the analysis by the technicians.”
During the negotiations the OTTT was represented by a technical commission, made up for the purpose of evaluating all the cases of the institution referring to the area of transportation. The commission was headed by Victor Luis Nuñez, the operations director; Maria Paz Condé, the technical director; Amaurys Velazquez, the assistant Director General; Candido Cordero, the technical coordinator; and Almanzar from Communications. The OTTT recalled that the decrees 489 – 87 and 349 – 11 authorize them to make readjustments in the transportation fares.
