Swimming from Sosúa to Puerto Plata in open waters
Just as the long distance swimmer Marcos Díaz, who swam on Sunday, September 18th, 2011 from the beach of Sosúa to the Acapulco beach at the Malecón of Puerto Plata, Juan Carlos Morales Plá will swim on Saturday, November 29th the same route.
Juan Carlos is 47 years old and only amateur swimmer, but he thinks he can accomplish this 17 kilometers swim by the waves of the ocean. He is not alone, as he is trained and supervised by a team of professionals. He also receives financial support from the Marcos Díaz Foundation. So he certainly does not make this route untrained and unprepared mentally. The tour starts at seven o’clock in the morning on the beach of Charamicos and he will then be expected to arrive, about half past eleven on the beach of El Pueblito Puerto Plata. Obviously this depends on the currents and the possible high waves. At El Pueblito, Puerto Plata he will be welcomed by mayors, dignitaries, the press and interested and will be honored. Honored as sports example for the youth and as an example that with perseverance and willpower much can be accomplished.
