Only Italy has pricier energy for industry than Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The World Economic Forum (WEF) ranks Dominican Republic, among60 countries, as having the world’s second most expensive electricity for industry, second only to Italy.
Quoted by diariolibre.com, WEF’s “The Global Energy Architecture Performance Index Report 2014,” said Dominican industry pays 21 cents the kilowatt hour, a cost surpassed only by Italy’s industry, which pays 28 cents higher on the dollar.
Among the Central American countries grouped in the DR-CAFTA, which also includes Dominican Republic, the ranking includes Costa Rica(11), Nicaragua (16), and El Salvador (17) cents, a much lower kilowatt/hour for industry.
