The Santiago prosecutor has freed the popular urban merengue singer Antonio Peter De La Rosa (Omega), because the people he shot in Santiago have refused to press charges.
Felix Antonio Rumaldo Martinez, Yeison Manauris Gonzalez Perez and Adalberto Genao Francisco, withdrew the charges against him saying they had no wish to carry on with the process.
Omega has been in Rafey jail on remand in Santiago since 2 June 2014, when he was found to be responsible for a shooting on 14 March 2014 in Colinas Mall on 27 February in the city. The singer’s lawyer, Robinson Fermin Garcia, asked for his release, given that the victims did not want to press charges, but the Public Prosecution service said that they had to take action in these sorts of cases, citing articles 29,30 and 31 of the Penal Code.
