North Coast Beach Community home to popular water sports and exciting nightlife

The north coast beach community of Cabarete, known as the “Windsurf Capital of the Caribbean,” is a haven for lovers of active water sports and features a vibrant nightlife. It is one of the country’s most popular destinations for the younger crowd. But, Cabarete is much more than that.

This former quiet fishing village, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, is also home to beautiful mangrove forests, rich and diverse ecosystems and an impressive cave system along its shoreline. Various local tour operators offer day trips that will take the visitor to many of these natural wonders.

Visitors will marvel at the beauty of the “Las Lagunas” Natural Monument and the “El Choco” National Park, protected areas that are home to some of the country’s most beautiful and intricate cave systems.

Approximately five caves are open to national and international visitors. Visitors can also enjoy a soothing and refreshing swim in some of the cave’s natural pools.

The rich vegetation that surrounds this natural monument makes it the perfect spot for bird watching.

Visitors can also enjoy a relaxing hike through the dense forest trails which will lead to a fresh-water natural pool for a refreshing dip (

Entrance is on the Sosua-Cabarete Highway.

Some 20 artisans sell their arts and crafts, as well as sweets, all made with local natural materials.

The park is open from 8a.m. to 5p.m.
