New ‘cedula’ for foreigners is a headache
The process for issuing the new ‘cedula’ – the identification and voter registration card required for daily life in the Dominican Republic – has become somewhat of a headache for many who swarmed the few offices equipped to deal with foreigners in the first days that the new ID card was being issued. According to Listin Diario, foreigners only have two locations where their IDs can be renewed: La Romana, and the main office located at the intersection of Romulo Betancourt and Luperon Avenue in Santo Domingo. Although there might be some inconveniences, the new ID card is free to everyone who resides in the country legally, according to Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario.
