Motor-taxis to get new license plates, vests starting March 15
Santo Domingo.- Internal Taxes Agency (DGII) director Guarocuya Felix on Monday announced they’ll start issuing the new license plates and vests for all motor-taxis on March 15.
He said the initiative seeks to improve safety and is part of the process to modernize and change the motor vehicle registry, which he affirms will cost RD$1.3 billion.
The official, speaking in a National Palace news conference, said the plates and vests will be issued to private motorcyclists in a second stage, to gradually register all bikers nationwide.
Felix said motor-taxis will pay a “symbolic” cost of 100 pesos, with around 110,000 bikers having completed the regulation process thus far.
He added that also starting July 1 motor vehicle registrations will be changed to a plastic similar to the driver license.
