Medina orders strict controls at Dominican-Haiti border

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Tuesday ordered stricter controls and vigilance at the border with Haiti, with more troops, equipment and technology to prevent the illegal entry of undocumented foreigners.

Interior and Police minister José Ramón Fadul said there’ll be more control at border crossings, and that Haitian merchants who attend the weekly markets will be issued a document so they can enter the country.

He said the patrols will be relieved every 15 days to prevent “confidence,” but praised the work done by the Border Security Corp (Cesfront).

“We strengthened the surveillance and controls on orders from president Medina. We know it’s fragile but we insist on working with our migration,” the official said on Hoy Mismo, Color Vision.
