Labor to ask Medina for a 30% wage hike by decree
Santo Domingo.- Labor union leaders will today Friday ask president Danilo Medina to issue an Executive Order to raise wages 30 percent for all workers.
Jacobo Ramos, president of the labor unions grouped in the CNTD, said Thursday this proposal will be the main topic in the meeting with the President slated for 11 am at the National Palace.
In addition to Ramos, union leaders Gabriel el Río and Rafael (Pepe) Abreu, among others, are expected to attend the meeting.
Ramos said in light of the Wage Committee’s inertia, they’ll ask Medina to convene management to discuss a 30% wage hike by decree for the public and private sectors.
“We want to make it clear that the unions will not waiver or cede an iota in the struggle which we’ve undertaken until a 30 percent wage increase is obtained, for private and public employees because household staples for the poor class on average exceed 20 and 26,000 pesos a month,” Ramos said.
