JCE puts new ‘cédula’ information at the disposition of the banks
SANTO DOMINGO. The Central Electoral Board (JCE) will place its database at the disposition of the banks so that with the new personal identification and voter registration card-known as the ‘cédula’-the banks can safely identify their customers. For this to happen, the president of the JCE and a team of technicians from the institution met yesterday with representatives of the Association of Commercial Banks of the Dominican Republic in order to explain to them the security tools the new, official document contains.
“This meeting allowed us to prepare the banks so that when citizens go there they can confirm that it is a document issued by the JCE and belongs to that person,” Rosario emphasized.
He said that the JCE is seeking to place their technology at the disposition of the of the banks in order to validate and check their customers; “to give them the guarantee that the citizens who go to the banks with the card are the true owners of that card.”
For his part the president of the Banking Association, Manuel Gonzalez Martinez, said that with the new document they will avoid problems of identity and improper operations.
“There are useful elements that are going to allow the ‘cédulas’ to be identified with security. The Banks will take the technology of the JCE in order to implement this,” he made clear. As of yesterday, the JCE had issued 36,000 new personal identification and voter registration cards, about 75% of those that had been requested.
