Interpol snags 20 foreign criminals on the lam in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Interpol has captured and extradited at least 20 dangerous foreign criminals on the lam in Dominican Republic during the past six months, and seeks 146 Dominicans who’ve fled the country wanted for homicides, fraud, drug trafficking, rape, money laundering, bank heists and contempt of court.

The foreigners captured mostly in the capital, Santiago and Puerto Plata hail from nearby countries such as Cuban and Mexico, but also from as far away as Russia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

Among those extradited recently figure citizens fugitives from Italy, Spain, Canada, Serbia, Germany and some Dominicans wanted United States and Spain.

As recent as January 24 the Czech fugitive Petv Masopust was captured hiding out in Sabana Luperon, Puerto Plata, after he fled his homeland where he’s accused of scams in the millions of dollars.

Local Interpol director Robert Albino Filpo revealed that he personally escorted him to the Czech capital. “They had always come to get their prisoners before, but this time allowed us to take him down,” citing the credibility of Interpol on the National Police.
