International Women’s Club strengthens social commitment
Santo Domingo.- The International Women’s Club of Santo Domingo (IWC), a nonprofit entity that supports children and women with primary needs, recently staged its traditional annual fundraising gala to expand its social action.
The amount collected will be allocated to a series of institutions working with children, adolescents, young people and women with extreme needs. The IWC made contributions for the purchase of medicines, medical exams and to pay staff; college scholarships, mobile libraries, physical therapy for children with cerebral palsy, among other donations.
The IWC aims to contribute to the needs of the Dominican community and strengthen the ties of friendship between women of different nationalities living in the country, helping them in their process of adaptation and understanding of its culture. It maintains an active program throughout the year that includes events and activities such as eco-tours, cultural and social activities, wine tasting, Christmas bazaar, among other initiatives allowing it to raise funds that are delivered directly to the beneficiary entities.
Acdording to Yvonne Ong- Gonzalez, President of the IWC, “thanks to the support provided by a number of institutions and collaborators over 15 years, we’ve become a facilitative institution of hope, solidarity and human development for hundreds of people in various parts of the Dominican geography, to help them improve their living conditions.”
“Tonight’s event reaffirms the commitment of 160 ladies of different nationalities who share a vision of solidarity, together through this institution helping to build a better society,” said Ong-Gonzalez.
Among the institutions benefitting with the funds collected last year are Hogar Escuela Mercedes Amiama; Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, in San Pedro de Macorís; the clinic Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo; Escuela Lucas de Aza, in Samaná; Religiosas Siervas de María, Instituto Dominicano de Estudios Virológicos. Also Hogar Escuela Rosa Duarte, Fundación Corazón del Siervo, Clínica de Familia, in La Romana; Fundación Abriendo Camino, Nido para Ángeles, in addition to the Proyecto Ayuda al Niño, Ened and Pediátrica por un Mañana foundations.
The gala was held in the Hotel Embajador’s Garden Tent and sponsored by several companies such as CEMEX, Banco BHD, Vargas Catering, Orange, Chivas, IMCA, Group SID and Acropolis Center.
