IDSS employees begin an indefinite strike
SANTO DOMINGO. Starting yesterday, the health and administrative personnel of the Dominican Social Security Institute (IDSS) are only attending emergency cases and those patients that arrive in critical condition and are hospitalized in the hospitals and polyclinics of the network, at the beginning of a strike for an indefinite period for the payment of the salaries in arrears from last month.
Starting in the first hours of they day yesterday, doctors and other employees of the Salvador B Gautier Hospital stayed out in front of the health center in order to call the attention of the authorities.
The president of the IDSS Medical Group, Rafael Rodriguez, said that the situation was simiolar to the other health establishments of the IDSS all over the country, and he warned that they will keep up the struggle until they receive their pay.
The IDSS has 20 hospitals, 29 polyclinics and 65 clinics and about 9,000 employees, including the administrative personnel.
Rodriguez Sandoval reported that the only explanation that he received is that the area of finances is working on the unique account, a government disposition to keep the accounts of the public and decentralized institutions.
For his part Dr Sabino Baez, the IDSS director, said that the inconvenience could be solved shortly, because the efforts to do this are well advanced.
