Iberia Airlines to Operate Five Direct Flights Between Santo Domingo and Madrid
The Spanish airline Iberia announced that it will begin to operate direct flights between Santo Domingo and Madrid beginning September 1, 2014. The airline will operate flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Flights from Santo Domingo to Madrid will depart at 4:10 p.m. Incoming flights from Madrid will depart the Spanish capital at 11:50 a.m., arriving in Santo Domingo at 2:40 p.m.
The majority of flights will be operated with Airbus A330 aircraft and all are equipped with new business class and tourist sections.
All business class seats feature six feet long flat beds. Economy class passengers will have access to nine-inch touch screens, featuring the same entertainment channels offered in the business section. Also available on board: Wi- Fi service and facilities for charging electronic equipment.
Currently Iberia flies to 90 destinations in 35 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East. Its subsidiary, Iberia Express, and its franchise partner Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, offer some 600 daily flights with a fleet of about 130 aircraft. Iberia is the third most on-time airline in the world, according to FlightStats.
During the first quarter of this year 26,365 Spanish tourists visited the Dominican Republic, making Spain the fourth nation contributing the highest number of tourists to the Dominican market. During 2013 some 140,000 Spanish tourists visited the country. In 2012 the number registered was 156,192.
Agreement with Iberia Airlines
The Dominican Ministry of Tourism and Iberia Airlines recently signed an agreement to promote tourism and which will guarantee that the Dominican Republic will be the most important long-distance receptor of European vacationers.
The agreement was signed by the Dominican Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier Garcia, and Maria Pilar Gonzalez Reyero, head of Iberia’s International Agreements.
The agreement also states that Iberia will promote the Dominican Republic through its official website www.iberia.comand other social media outlets.
The airline’s website receives some 6.5 million monthly visitors. Through its social media outlets, Iberia has a following of 1.7 million, including its multi-language Facebook and Twitter accounts, which operate in Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian, German and French.
