Growing list of eco-friendly dominican hotels

Thanks to the introduction of sound environmental practices, a growing number of Dominican hotels and resorts have received important international awards for their eco-friendly policies.  Last year several hotels received the Adrian Awards, the Green Key and the Green Globe awards, all issued in recognition to the sustainable tourism efforts they implemented to protect the local environment.

The Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort complex, in Punta Cana, and the Wyndham Tangerine Live Viva, the Wyndham Dominicus Beach, the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace and Club Med Punta Cana received the Green Globe Certification, a distinction awarded to hotels around the world after completing 337 sustainability indicators and eco-friendly practices.

In the Dominican Republic, the Iberostar Hotels were certified with the “Green Key” award for its contribution to sustainable tourism development through the introduction of sound practices in their operational activities. The program is headed by the Foundation for Environmental Education, a non-profit institution with operations in 64 countries.

The Bavaro Hotel won the highest honor issued by the Adrian Awards for Sustainable Tourism.  The awards ceremony was held at the New York Marriott Marquis. The Adrian Awards encompass all industry segments including hotels, airlines, cruise ships, car rental companies, destinations, credit card companies, and more. Winners are selected by industry experts and media representatives from a total of more than 1,200 participants.
