Government will hold a day of work against the Chikungunya virus
SANTO DOMINGO. More than 400,000 public employees will take part next Friday in a national day to eliminate the breeding grounds of the mosquito that transmits the Chikungunya virus.
President Danilo Medina and Vice President Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez met yesterday with ministers, national directors, the president of the Dominican Municipal Federation (Fedomu), Juan de los Santos, and instructed them to deal with the problem together.
A meeting to coordinate things was set for today at 10:00 a.m., in the Ministry of Public Health, with representatives of all of the participating entities in yesterday’s meeting in order to assign responsibilities by province and municipality.
The Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, and the director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), Olgo Fernandez, explained that in addition to eliminating the focal points of contamination, they will carry out an educational and orientation program for the people on how to prevent the disease.
They explained that the government will deal a strong blow to the cause of the spread of the Chikungunya virus. Just Indrhi will make 4000 employees available for the day.
The public servants will visit all of the homes in order to teach the people and take away the items that could be used to reproduce mosquitoes which transmit the virus.
Whether there will be more programs like this one after Friday was not mentioned.
