Government readies 4,000 hectares for agro at growing lake’s shore
Neiba, Dominican Republic.- Bahoruco.- The Public Works Ministry and the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) will prepare more than 4,000 hectares for ranchers and farmers in eight villages on Lake Enriquillo’s shore.
Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo on Friday said the projects have been designed jointly with the IAD, for farmers and ranchers displaced by Enriquillo’s encroaching waters.
He said camps have been placed to work on the roads to the farms and ranches in the zone, with dozens of heavy equipment in Espartillar, La Baitoa, Limon Viejo, Nuevo Limon, Guzman, Cerro Colorado, Las Clavellinas and San Bartolomém Boca de Cachón, at Independencia and Bahoruco provinces.
“We’re working on president Danilo Medina’s instructions to bring hope to those affected by lake’s flooding, with around 43 kilometers of roads in Independencia and 13 in Bahoruco, creating direct and indirect jobs to improve the area’s productivity and development,” the official said.
