Government hands out 900 thousand food parcels
This year again the government will distribute Christmas food parcels among the poor people of the country. 900 thousand packages will be distributed from 19 December. The packages include rice, sugar, corn flour, cooking oil, tomato paste, spaghetti, candy, peas and wine. And also milk powder, cocoa, spices, oranges, cassava, coffee, sausages and chicken. This act of good-will costs 300 million pesos to the government. As of December 20th the residents of Sosúa can also look forward to a food parcel. Probably the authorities again will designate the lucky ones to receive a parcel. If poor non-church members also can claim a package is so far unclear.
