Farmers’ Christmas Parade, Sosua
The farmers of the Association for Farmers of the North Coast (La Asociación de Ganaderos the Zona Norte) held a horseback riding parade through the streets of Sosúa, Saturday December 27. The parade was preceded by a sound truck with applicable Mexican music. It was music that is traditionally played at rodeos all over the world (mainly Mexico and Texas). Behind the sound truck the farmers followed horseback riding. It was obvious that they were skilled horsemen because they maneuvered easily along the tables that were set up in the closed part of Pedro Clisante.
The tourists were astonished when the horses showed up and passed in front of them. Cattle breeders want to bring under the attention of the residents of Sosúa that there is more than tourism in the Sosúa area. There are also farms of economic importance to the north coast which also provide employment. The ride through the streets of Sosúa finally ended on the beach of the town where at restaurant Andrés the national dish Sancocho was waiting for the riders.
