Everyone against Chikungunya
SANTO DOMINGO. In the face of the spread of the Chikungunya virus, the ministries of Education and Youth, joined with Public Health in the program of preventions and control of the virus which has sickened more than 32,000 persons.
Starting today the Ministry of Education will involve students, professors, school directors, and municipal and regional directors in the education system, in the plan in order to serve as multipliers of the preventive measures in order to put a stop to the epidemic.
The authorities of the Ministry of Public Health worked out a school guide that explains what the disease is, how it is transmitted, and the hygiene and controls measures needed to control the breeding grounds of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that causes it.
The guide will begin to be distributed in public and private schools in different parts of the country.
Likewise, hundreds of young persons in the different provincial and regional directorates of the Ministry of Youth were instructed regarding the disease with the aim of carrying out work programs to eliminate the breeding grounds of the vectors in their different areas.
Juan Minaya, the Minister of Youth, said that this represents a large commitment and working in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health to halt the epidemic.
For his part, the Minister of Public Health, Freddy Hidalgo Nuñez, indicated that more than 10,000 young persons will join in on these social mobilizations all over the country. They belong to eight regional directions, 32 provincial offices, 50 student associations and 100 doctors.
In the meantime, the hospitals of San Cristobal and of Greater Santo Domingo continue receiving hundreds of patients daily with the symptoms of the virus that causes intense fevers and joint pains.
