Dominicans wager US$140M daily just in betting parlors
Santo Domingo.- Dominicans wager as much as RD$300 million each day just on betting parlors, a figure that could be as high as RD$600 million (US$140 million), when the large number of illegal businesses are included.
Technicians of the Economy Ministry’s Casinos Dept. register 30,750 legal parlors but estimate a similar figure of illegal ones, or more than 60,000.
It says a parlor must sell around 3,500 pesos per day to survive, but averages sales range from 7,000 to 10,000, and some as much as 50,000.
Since the number de illegal parlors could match the legal ones, the local gamblers play as much as 600 million pesos daily (RD$185.0 billion per year).
