Dominican Women Volleyball team unstoppable
Rome.- Headed by team captain Bethania De La Cruz’s 30 points, Dominican Republic’s Women Volleyball continue making history at the sport’s 17th annual World Championship taking place in Italy.
The Dominicans on Wednesday handed Belgium a 3-2 defeat to start of the second round in Group E, staged at Bari, Palaflorio.
The partials concluded 15-8, 25-17, 25-22, 22-25 and 22-25, catapulting the Caribbean’s reigning queens to the 10th spot in the world ranking.

Dominican Republic Women’s Volleyball team marches unbeaten at the World Championship being held in Italy, where they dispatched Azerbaijan 3 sets to 1 in the event’s second round.
After having lost the first set 25 to 22, the local women went on to win 25 to 11; 25 to 21 and 25 to 17.
“We play for the heart, we play for the country, we play to make Dominicans feel proud of us,” tweeted Gina Mambrú after the match.
Bethania de la Cruz and Priscila Rivera headed the Dominican’s attack, both with 16 points.
Update (Oct. 04): Undefeated China hold off Dominican Republic for eighth straight win
Bari, Italy.- China held off Dominican Republic 3-2 in a clash between two previously unbeaten teams at Palaflorio, Bari, Saturday afternoon for their eighth straight victory in the 2014 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Women’s Championship.
With the hard fought 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 20-25, 15-10 victory, the Chinese women snapped a four-match full-set winning streak of Dominican Republic, who suffered their first defeat in eight matches.
Dominican Republic get remaining spot
Italy knocked Japan 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) and have the Asians out of the competition. This means that the Dominican Republic get the last remaining spot from Pool E, joining China and Italy in qualifying to Round III. Japan will be going home on Monday, regardless of what they do tomorrow against the Dominican Republic.
