Dominican Republic prepares to host Central American Presidents

Heads of state and government from Central America and the Dominican Republic will be meeting in Punta Cana this Friday, 27 June 2014. Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso says that all heads of state of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic will be attending the Paradisus Palma Real Punta Cana Hotel for the event. Key officials from the European Union and the United States, as well as ministers of foreign relations of Turkey and New Zealand will be attending.

A Council of Foreign Relations Ministers will chair the meeting of the heads of state.

The SICA focuses on democratic security, prevention and mitigation of natural disasters and the effects of climate change, social integration, economic integration and institutional capacity building.

The Dominican Republic has held the Presidency Pro Tempore of SICA in the first half of 2014 and will pass it on to Belize at the June meeting.
