Dominican Republic opens the region’s biggest farmers market
Santo Domingo.- Former president Hipolito Mejia on Thursday accompanied president Danilo Medina in the ribbon-cutting for the regional farmers market, Merca Santo Domingo, where they sat next to each other on the dais.
Merca Santo Domingo, the biggest and most modern food and produce distribution market in the entire Caribbean and Central America region, was built on an area of more than 1.2 million square meters.
It features six warehouse of 7,200 square meters each and houses 278 businesses and 616 vendor spaces of 6 square meters, to improve sales by producers and wholesalers.
It also has two large warehouses of 1,721 square meters each for the storage of containers and foodstuff produced across the Dominican Republic.
