Dominican Republic holiday deaths fall to 15
Santo Domingo.- The year end break claimed the lives of 15 people, all in traffic accidents, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) announced yesterday.
It said its operation “Dominican Christmas of culture, values and safety” tallied 157 hurt, including 142 people in incidents, 11 by alcohol, and two for food poisoning.
The report says as of 2pm Monday the30th until 6am yesterday; 97 traffic accidents were reported, of which 59 involved people on motorcycles, including 8 deaths.
It said 5 deaths were in 29 car accidents, seven in trucks and buses and two people were run over.
COE director Juan Manuel Méndez stressed that despite the tragedies, there were fewer compared with the previous period’s total of 246 hurt and 22 deaths.
