Dominican Republic announces sugar industry relaunch
Guerra, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina on Sunday announced the sugar industry’s relaunch with a new sugarcane variety of higher yield and profitability, to improve its growers’ living conditions.
“We’re going to relaunch sugarcane production in the coming months, because a Colombian technician coming s in the next few days to help us produce panela sugar (bricks),” Medina said speaking after meeting with members of the of Mata de Palma farm producers association in Santo Domingo province.
He said the new variety of sugarcane has a higher value than the traditional, and a safe market for export. “It’s a powerful sweetener obtained by evaporating sugarcane juice.”
Brick sugar has a number of nutrients and is totally organic.
