Division of opposition party is a fact
Santo Domingo.– Dominican Republic’s opposition party (PRD) yesterday formalized its final division, after former president Hipolito Mejia announced he will take an independent opposition path in regards to the 2016 presidential elections.
This process is preceded by an intense internal struggle during the last three years, which failed dozens of mediators, including Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado, Panama´s former president Martin Torrijos, and different PRD leaders.
During an event held at the Jose Francisco Pena Gomez Institute, Mejia addressed the country and urged the perredeistas to bring their aspirations for the 2016 elections by supporting his “Convergence for a Better Country”, a group that comprises the parties Frente Amplio, Humanista Dominicano, Alianza Social Dominicana and several independent organizations.
