District Attorney receives more than 20 complaints against TelexFree
SANTO DOMINGO. The District Attorney of the National District, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, revealed that more than 20 persons have filed complaints for alleged fraud against the pyramid scheme offered by the company called TelexFree. She said that the plaintiffs belong to jurisdictions of the National District, the province of Santo Domingo and others.
She said this was a very small number in relation to the quantity of persons that have been cheated, which according to what they have said there are more than 150,000 persons who were clients of the Ponzi scheme. She explained that there exists information that through a church called “El Nuevo Amanecer” (the New Dawn), in La Romana, they began to capture persons.
She indicated that the district attorneys of Santiago have said that persons have contacted them in order to find out the procedure for placing their complaints.
She called upon the citizens that have been swindled by TelexFree not to wait very long to complain. “We do not see any possibility, within the judicial framework, that with this investigation the company can continue operating in the Dominican Republic.” Although she refrained from identifying the plaintiffs, she said that the amounts varied from between RD$61,000 and US$300. She described this as painful to listen to the sacrifice narrated by the persons involved, who have said that they took out loans, sold businesses and invested their small savings. “We are carrying out the investigation and the District Attorney and the Prosecutors are focused on the possibility of recovering assets.” She said that because of this she is investigating the issue of money laundering.
