Distribution of new ‘cédula’ extends to Cibao
SANTO DOMINGO. The Central Electoral Board (JCE) begins today the process of providing the ‘cédula’ in all of the towns in the Cibao region. By next Friday the process will cover the whole country. For the emission of the new personal identification and voter registration card (‘cédula’) in the northern half of the country, the JCE has prepared 59 centers together with another 28 already working add up to 87 places offering the service according to the official webpage of the agency that runs the elections.
According to the JCE president, Roberto Rosario, the emission of the new official document will be faster thanks to the fact that the telephone companies have provided the JCE with equipment to accelerate the transmission capacity of the information. The equipment is wi-fi and has a greater capacity for resolution and transmission.
Starting today, the ‘cédulas’ will be issued in the locales in provinces such as Samana, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Monsignor Nouel, Sanchez Ramirez, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Dajabon, Monte Cristi, La Vega and Santiago, among others.
The process of issuing the new document will go on for 18 months, and will include some 350,000 Dominicans living overseas in a process that will be started next July. The document will be issued to more than 7 million Dominicans, including 59,017 military personnel and 32,617 members of the National Police.
