Deputies pass bill lets the Government take part in energy business
Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday approved -97 to 1 – and with amendments the bill which authorizes the government’s provisional participation as promoter or owner, directly or indirectly in the electricity generation-business through the State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE).
The lower Chamber’s approval comes after an Energy Committee report which recommends a tax exemption for the energy distribution companies (EDEs), as long as it’s State property.
It also rejected deputy Vinicio Castillo’s request to add a clause to the bill that bans the EDEs’ sale for “peanuts” and avert and ensure that the government guarantees the investment.
