Dajabon cross-border market back to normal after turmoil

Dajabon, Dominican Republic.-The cross-border market held Mondays and Fridays was back to normal early today, as Haitian and Dominican merchants awaited the unloading of dozens of trucks full of items such as canned foods, alcoholic beverages, garments, footwear and farm products.

Outlet quotes deputy consul Marciano Mateo as saying that operations at the Dominican consulate in Ouanaminthe are also back to normal,  as Haitian authorities have pledged the safety for all Dominican staff.

Last week’s market days were hampered by riots and protests in several Haitian communities on various demands from Port-au-Prince.

Some incidents between Dominicans and Haitians also affected the activities, unleashed when seven Dominican truck drivers were kidnapped but later released.
