Controversial cross-mountain road will harm national parks
Santo Domingo.- An association of attorneys on Friday filed for an injunction to halt the Government’s call for tender to build the controversial cross-mountain road Cibao-Sur, which president Danilo Medina vowed to conclude before he leaves office in 2016.
The Institute of Lawyers for the Protection of the Environment (Insaproma) filed the request before the Superior Administrative Court (TSA), and seek the suspension of the tender, which in theif view violates environmental laws and several articles of the Constitution.
Representing the organization, the attorneys Euren Cuevas, Maritza Reinoso and William Alcántara asked the TSA to annul the call for tenders, noting that only Congress can modify the boundaries of the J. Armando Bermudez, José del Carmen Ramirez and Manolo Tavares Justo national parks, which they assure will be jeopardized by the roadwork.
