Colonial Zone rebuild 45% complete, continues ‘at a good clip’
Santo Domingo.- The project to rebuild the infrastructure of the Colonial Zone historic center is 45% complete and continues at a good pace, said Wednesday Maribel Villalona, in charge of the Tourism Ministry program.
The official’s assessment comes two months after she admitted that the Colonial City Comprehensive Streets Reform Program wouldn’t be ready in 2014 as first announced. “It has never had the pace it has today, because all the teams are synchronized.”
Villalona, quoted by listin.com.do, said the Meriño, Isabel la Católica, Restauracion, Tejera, Billini and Mercedes streets are being worked on thus far, and that they have plans to advance quickly and reduce costs.
She said the project of 42 works and 48 contracts has progressed without problems.
The Tourism Ministry expects tangible results on several projects by December, among them 200 security cameras installed in the first stage.
