Capital City of Santo Domingo Now Features a Brand New Sheraton Hotel
The capital city of Santo Domingo celebrated in style the entry of the former Magna 360 to the Sheraton chain of hotels. The new 255-room Sheraton Santo Domingo has already been included in the chain’s reservation system and other online services. Some US$20 million were invested to completely refurbish the old structure and to restore the splendor exhibited when the hotel was originally inaugurated in 1977.
Situated in the very heart of Santo Domingo’s beautiful seaside boulevard, the international hotel chain continues to provide its guests with world-class services.
The Dominican Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier Garcia, expressed during the inauguration ceremony that if he had been taken blindfolded to the newly refurbished hotel he never would have guessed, upon seeing the exceptional work carried out by architects and designers, that it was the old Sheraton building.
The Sheraton Santo Domingo is a five-star 255-room hotel, which occupies an area of some 20,000 square meters in the city’s seaside boulevard.
Its large outdoor swimming pool offers visitors spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. Other facilities include the Sheraton Club Lounge, bars, restaurants, a 24-hour business center, the Sheraton Fitness gymnasium equipped with sauna and other facilities.
The hotel is owned by the Dominican company “Hoteles Nacionales,” now in alliance with the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Group. The group continues to successfully expand in the Dominican Republic where it currently operates two other top-quality hotels.
MORE SPACE FOR CONVENTIONS
Part of the hotel’s renovation process included increasing by 83% its original space for business-related meetings and activities. Also, all areas were completely refurbished and brand new furniture brought in.
The current Sheraton Santo Domingo now features 2,200 square meters of meeting space, 13 meeting rooms, including the “Malecon Terrace,” a new 1,000 square-meter space for special events.
These new business-related facilities have turned the Sheraton Santo Domingo into one of the city’s top business hotels.
The world-famous Sheraton Hotels and Resorts company features 400 properties in 75 countries. It is the largest and most global brand of the “Starwood Hotels and Resorts,” which includes some of the best names in the hospitality industry such as Sheraton, Le Méridien, Four Points by Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis and W Hotels.
