Canada miner strikes gold in western Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- Mining agency director Alexander Medina on Wednesday announced the discovery of a gold deposit at Juan de Herrera, western San Juan province, by Canada-based Precipitate Gold, within its exploration license issued in 2013.
He said the find at Loma Jengibre, east of the city, is an 18-meter column of ore averaging 4.5 grams of gold per ton, including a 5-meter section with 13.4 grams of gold per ton, from 84 to 102 meters deep.
The official said the deposit could be extended as far as 600 meters, “providing wide possibilities of extending the discovery and define important reserves of gold ore in the area.”
“It’s a satisfaction to successfully apply president Danilo Medina’s policy on mining exploration,” the official said in a statement.
