Bautista and Aristy Escuder agreed to end lawsuit
SANTO DOMINGO. Senator Felix Bautista, the economist Jaime Aristy Escuder and a jurist José Alejandro Ayuso, are supposed to have signs an agreement that puts an end to the international lawsuit which was filed in the 11th Circuit Court of Dade County in Miami, last September 2013, after the legislator sued for $25 million for defamation and damages.
The agreement signed last 26 July and a copy of which Diario Libre has received, establishes that Aristy Escuder, the author of the book titled “The dark side of Sun Land”, recognizes that “the book was not written with the intention to defame or in bad faith.” In addition according to the document the parties recognize that the “book was written using information available at that date, basically what was published in the media and through testimonies.”
In addition, Aristy Escuder had recognized that after publication documents appeared which “cleared up vagueness which the book contained, and he became aware of judicial decisions in the Dominican Republic. At the same time, Ayuso said that the prologue which he wrote for the book was done making use of its content. The parties also agreed to put an end to the lawsuit among them.
Consulted by the Diario Libre, Aristy Escuder admitted there were meetings and agreement was reached, but the judge has to accept it or reject it, so that he cannot talk about the issue until next week and if the tribunal does not accept the agreement, the process will continue.
