Authorities suggest prioritizing newborns with Chikungunya

Given the increase in the suspicious cases of the Chikungunya virus in newborns and minors, the health authorities are recommending that the health professionals and the population in general prioritize the attention given to newborns, with or without symptoms, children of mother that have shown signs of the disease during the birth or four days before.
Also, attention should be given to small children, one year old or younger, the elderly over 65 as well as persons with preexisting conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular conditions, kidney problems, TB, VIH/AIDS, sickle cell anemia or other blood conditions.
Another recommendation is to attend the patients which present respiratory difficulties, intense abdominal pains and persistent vomiting, convulsions and bleeding from body orifaces.
In the meantime, yesterday they continued the action aimed at eliminating the breeding grounds of the Aedes aegypti mosquito which causes the Chikungunya fever and dengue.
This time it was the turn of the Senate president, Reinaldo Pared Perez, who accompanied the Minister of Public Health, Freddy Hidalgo Nuñez, to teach the residents of the La Cienaga sector about how to avoid the virus and eliminate the breeding grounds of the mosquito.
The suspicious cases of the Chikungunya are now more than 77,300, according to official numbers from the Ministry. Among the guidelines are the use of mosquito netting and to spread chlorine around the sides of water storage tanks.
