Attorney General says the deal with Sobeida is not applicable
SANTO DOMINGO. The Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito, considered that the plea bargain signed by the District Attorney of the National District with the defendant Sobeida Felix Morel which included her guilty plea and the negotiation of a five year sentence is not applicable for the Justice Department.
He said that the law establishes that agreement such as that of Sobeida should be authorized by a judge and lays out the procedures.
He argued that the agreement by the woman who was the mistress of the Puerto Rican capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto did not follow the procedures.
“It is what I have repeated a thousand times that this is not an agreement that applied to the Justice Department. The agreements that are established according to the law are authorized by a judge and the law establishes clearly the procedures and this was not standardized regarding these procedures.” He said that in the agreement the District Attorney gave his word for a determined space, which was the National District and to carry out the steps necessary.
Regarding the assets
Regarding the threats of challenging the sale by public auction of the assets of the Figueroa Agosto network, Dominguez Brito said that the seizures are definitive. “This is a sentence of irrevocable character where sentence has been handed down and does not enter into any sort of discussion.” He said that there can be no tolerance for drug trafficking.
